more than just the merchandise

Every being on this planet has a growing edge: a part of themselves that is calling for new life. In flowers, it’s the upward trajectory, the movement towards the sun, the blossoming. In humans, our growing edge is more internal. It’s the call for emotional growth, for healing from past trauma, for learning new ways to self-love.

Personal growth is often stunningly beautiful, but it is also sometimes exhausting. New growth requires new energy, and when you’re recovering from trauma, it’s really hard to find new energy reserves.

Maude’s Paperwing Gallery hopes to offer some support on your personal growth journey. Sure, we sell crystals and rocks because they’re really pretty. But we also sell them because sometimes having a crystal in your pocket (or your bra) can bolster your spirit and get you through another day. We sell incense and herb bundles because we’re a bunch of witchy hippies, but also because the ritual of cleansing is itself a form of healing and self-love.

Our hope and dream here at Maude’s is to someday be a community resource: a place where people can come together in authenticity; a place where people can feel safe and loved enough to shed any masks they’ve been holding on to and to dress wounds from old traumas. We ESPECIALLY want to offer this healing space to our fellow queer witches and all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Love,
The Queer Witches of Maude’s Paperwing Gallery

  • Visiting Maude's

Our storefront is located just about Harold's Haunt! While we're currently closed for winter break, we hope to be back up and running soon! Questions about how to find us and where to park?

  • Meet the Witches

Athena, Maura and Ringa are the faces of Queer Witches (although they aren't the only folx being silly little guys at Maude's Paperwing Gallery). They each have their specific skills that they bring, and it wouldn't be Maude's without them.

  • Witchy Wednesdays!

We host a livestream weekly from the shop where you can watch us be silly little guys, tell stories, eat scary food and watch Fred shred cardboard and occasionally try to eat the candles. Silly Fred. Tune in on Twitch, YouTube or Facebook!

Visiting Maude's IRL

  • Accessability

Maude's is, unfortunately, not very accessible. It's up a full flight of stairs, and there is no elevator. We sure wish we could fix that.
Meanwhile, we welcome those who can't make it up the stairs to shop our website or tune in to our livestreams on Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook. Keep an eye out for when we're vending at fairs and festivals as well! We would love to see you in the wild.

  • Parking

Maude's doesn't have a parking lot, but Millvale usually has plenty of street parking! There are parking meters along Grant Ave, and right now they're only 25 cents for like two hours. They are the old-fashioned kind of meter, though, so you will need an actual quarter.

When our local music venue has a big show, parking can get pretty tricky. If you're ever struggling to find parking, there is a public lot hidden along girty's run, down past the Axe-throwing place.

  • Paying

We accept all types of card and we'll even do tap pay.

Here's the thing, though. Cash is our favorite. If you're able to pay us in cash, that would make our lives better, save us from paying card fees, keep more money in our pockets, and therefore back into the pockets of our staff and our community.

Also, using cash means your purchases aren't trackable by big corporations that make money off of your data.

But at the end of the day, we'll take your card payments. we won't take checks, though. That would be wild.

Meet the Witches

Athena Lirael

Hi! Athena Here!

I opened Maude's Paperwing Gallery in 2019 and WOW it's been such a wild ride. My goal with both Harold's and Maude's has been to create a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community where emotional healing and growth can take place. I very much believe that the process of personal growth must be community-supported. And I also think personal growth is inherently queer and witchy.

On a sillier note, I'm the one telling everyone NOT to eat the rocks. I know they look tasty. But please don't.

  • Maura

Maura is the mastermind of design & our ghost detective - with a mind for mischief and also a heart of gold. You can find Maura working the witch shop and vending our shows, and often hanging out at the bar drinking out of a glass that is a giant lady, cuz why not.

  • Ringa

Ringa goes by many names including 'Snack Fairy', 'Daddy', 'Porn Master' and 'Con's Bestie'. Ringa also has a heart of gold but they do love a good fight on the internet with idiots and they will not hold back. Ringa doesn't actually work at Harold's or Maude's but is always around anyways, and has become a pillar of our weird chaos house.

Violet

Athena here, again.
Listen, I don't know how this happened, but apparently we have a demon baby. Her name is Violet and according to lore, she's a felon with a vape problem who loves stateside vodka. Don't worry, she is actually 6,000+ years old, so she can drink legally.

If demon babies are your vibe, you should probably follow her on Instagram. If they aren't your vibe.... well, honestly, same, so idk what to tell you. She lives here now. It was out of my hands.
